This guide is provided by Conductor, the service that powers the QuickBooks Desktop integration for many business tools, including the one that sent you here.

1

Disable the current computer's connection

On the computer with the existing connection, open the Web Connector by searching for it in the Windows search bar, and un-check the box in the “Auto-Run” column.

We recommend disabling “Auto-Run” instead of clicking “Remove” because that button is known to cause issues. Plus, it is convenient to have the connection still on this computer in case you need to move back.

2

Set up QuickBooks Desktop on the new computer

On the new computer, open QuickBooks Desktop, open the company file you wish to connect, and sign in as the Admin user.

3

Download and open the config file

Return to the setup guide, click “Download config file”, and then open the file you downloaded.

4

Resolve the OwnerID/FileID error

When you open the config file, you will likely either or both of the following errors, caused by bugs in QuickBooks Desktop:

QuickBooks Web Connector error - QBWC1039: Unique OwnerID/FileID pair value requiredQuickBooks Web Connector error - Unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. Index (zero based) must be greater than or equal to zero and less than the size of the argument list.

To fix these errors:

  1. Open the Windows Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc or by searching for “Task Manager” in the Windows search bar.

  2. In the Task Manager, locate “QuickBooks Web Connector”. Right-click it and select ”End Task”. If you don’t see it, click ”More details” at the bottom of the Task Manager window to view all running processes.

  3. Close the Task Manager.

  4. Reopen the Web Connector by searching for it in the Windows search bar at the bottom of the screen.

When it opens, you should now see the connection on the new computer.

5

Continue with the setup guide

Return to the setup guide and click “Next”. QuickBooks Desktop will not prompt you to approve permissions for this connection because it already has them from the previous computer. You can skip ahead to the next step of the guide.

6

Complete the setup as usual

Follow the remaining steps in the setup guide:

  1. The guide will provide a unique password.
  2. Copy this password into the Web Connector.
  3. The guide will confirm that the connection is successful.

You have now successfully moved your connection to a different computer.
